Advocate C.J Joseph M.A.LL.B popularly known as 'Ponnachan' is the eldest son of C.L Joseph ( Ousepkunju) . Ponnachan held several key political positions and played a key role in the development of Ettumanoor Panchayat. He is a lawyer at Ettumanoor.
Education:
He studied in S.H High School (Thevara), St. Joseph's college (Trichy), took his B.A. (Psychology) from St. Philomina's College (Mysore), M.A(Psychology) and LL.B from Aligarh Muslim University in 1957.
Positions held:
He was in active politics since 1957. Following is list of positions he held.
· President of Ettumanoor Panchayat from 1963 to 1979
· Ettumanoor Mandalam president and member of Kottayam district committee of Indian National Congress
· Joined Kerala Congress and was Ettumanoor 'Niyojaka Mandalam' president and state committee member
· President of Ettumanoor Service cooperative bank
· Chairman of Block Development Council
· Member of District Development Council (DCC) of Kottayam
Achievements:
As the President of Ettumanoor Panchayat for 16 years, he played a pivotal role in the development of Ettumanoor Panchayat. His vision and commitment was the single most important factor in the educational, financial social development of Ettumanoor Panchayat. Following are some of his achievements.
· Played major role in the bifurcation of the Government High School into Boys and Girls schools. The high school was originally started during the presidency of his uncle C.L Varkey
· Started the Primary Health Center in Ettumanoor (under the Medical college hospital, Kottayam) by granting Panchayat land. Also arranged free land for starting three health care sub-centers in Peroor, Punnathura and Vallikkad
· The present public water supply scheme in Ettumanoor and Kattachira was started during his tenure of presidency.
· Constructed public comfort station in Ettumanoor town and Children's park near Ettumanoor Panchayat office.
· The block development office and the veterinary hospital in Ettumanoor were started in Ettumanoor only because of his efforts.
· The Fish Market in Ettumanoor was started during his presidency
· Built the infrastructure for the Private Bus Station / Shopping complex in Ettumanoor by developing 3 acres of Panchayth land and entering into agreement with the Rural Development Board of Kerala Government to build the Bus Station.
· Built the foundation for the KSRTC Bus Station in Ettumanoor by acquiring the land and transferring it free of cost to the Transport Department. This was later developed into the modern day KSRTC Bus Station.
· He also made his earnest attempt to get the Ettumanoor 'Taluk' re-established. Ettumanoor had the 'Mandapathum Vathil'(Taluk) status during the time of the Travancore monarchy. He is hopeful of his dream come true in the near future.

Joseph married Sofia CHERUKARA, daughter of Augustine (C.M Augustine Vakkeel) CHERUKARA and Annaamma NEERIANKAL, on 22 Oct 1962 in Ettumanoor. Sofia was born 11 Aug 1933 in Changanacherry and resided in Ettumanoor .
She holds B.Sc. and B.Ed. degrees. After her retirement as a Govt. High school teacher, she became a member of the Director Board of Ettumanoor Service Cooperative bank.
