THE CHIRAYIL FAMILY
IntroductionThe Chirayil Family of Ettumanoor (Kerala, India) has its roots in one of the
first families converted to Christianity by St. Thomas the Apostle of Christ
around AD 52. The root family was based in Northern Malabar and moved to Kuravilangad
(Kerala) during the invasion of Tippu Sultan. Our forefathers (Plammottil
Family) further moved to Athirampuzha(Kerala) and then
brought to Ettumanoor by the Temple Authorities of Ettumanoor. Plammoottil
family is the root family for Chirayil and other prominent families in
Ettumanoor. Chirayil family has contributed community leaders, political
leaders, business men, planters, doctors, engineers, highly placed Govt.
officials, and lawyers to the community. Christ
The King Church (Parish Church, Ettumanoor ) popularly known as 'Chirel Palli' and the 'Kurisupalli'
(Chapel) at Ettumanoor are standing testimonies to
their leadership and generosity. In 1925, Chirayils pioneered the motor bus service business
in the erstwhile princely state of
Travancore. Today, members of the Chirayil Family
are spread
across the world with considerable population in Ettumanoor(Kerala), New York
Metro Area and Chicago.
About This siteThis web site is a tribute to all the Chirayils spread all over the world especially at Ettumanoor (Kerala, India), New York Metro Area and Chicago. We remember all our forefathers of Plammoottil and Chirayil family for their guidance and blessings. This site tries to compile the family history and roots of Chirayil Family collected over several years. The task was initiated by late C.L Joseph Chirayil (Ousephkunju). It was his long cherished wish to publish the history of the Chirayil family. He personally visited several of the family's households in Kerala (India), New York Metro Area and Chicago to collect the information. His eldest son C.J Joseph Chirayil (Ponnachan) played a key role in compiling the data about the Chirayil family he and his father collected over several years. Mr. C.J Joseph continued his efforts to meticulously collect and compile the data after the demise of his father. It is the persistent efforts and commitment of Peter Damien Chirayil (Thankachan) who is the 12th child of C.L Joseph that finally made this site a reality. Ajith Cherayil (Chirayil) who is the youngest son of C.J Joseph provided the technical help and performed the design and development of this website. This site is the result of the collective effort of all the family members who wished to make it a success.
