Forefathers of Mani Mathan came from Kuravilangadu to settle in Athirampuzha. Temple authorities at Ettumanoor invited Mani Mathan to settle in Ettumanoor by offering Padippurackal property in lieu of his services to the temple. It was believed that Namboothiris( priest class among Hindus) converted to Christianity could touch and 'purify' the supplies to the temple brought in by people
who were 'untouchables'. Mani Mathan settled at the Padippurackal property with the PLAMMOOTTIL family name. Mani Mathan and his decedents enjoyed special rights and privileges from the temple and were entitled to tax free land. These privileges were in effect till the mid nineteen forties. These can be verified with the temple records of Ettumanoor.
